It's hard to believe that the same people who've been shelling out $100+ to attend sporting events will have the gumption to keep on shelling it out in light of recent economic events. The New York Giants/Jets, for instance, are charging fans a "personal seat license" fee for the right to buy season tickets for their new shared stadium (several thousands of dollars). My hunch is that Joe Six-pack can't afford those PSLs. This means that sports teams will have to get very innovative with their approach to wrenching every penny out of consumers as they can. Some teams are incredibly rich, and can afford to suffer a little bit. Other teams who aren't so wealthy - like, say, every team in the NHL - will seriously be on thin ice (har har har har).

sports teams will easily make more money during the downturn than many other extra expenses. more families will look to their local sport teams rather than a cross country trip, and god knows that there are enough sports teams that people can get to with a 30min drive.
