The metrics are staggering - for a country with a population of 7 million and a mid-east locale the stats that surround Technology start-ups in Israel are quite a phenomena.
1.7 billion in VC investmens in 2007, a local VC industry with 10 Billion under management, private equity numbers probably match, most non-US country listed companies on NASDAQ and R+D centers of most of the Technology "brand names".
Of course there are the "standard" sound bites, such as high education levels, a country under siege for 60 years etc etc - but these simple explanations do not measure up.
