You make an excellent point with this post. The real challenge is re-thinking priorities. For many companies, sending an employee or two to a three day conference in Las Vegas would rival the cost of teleconferencing. Convincing the leadership of the multitude of possibilities that teleconferencing provides has to demonstrate a significant return on their investment. The more it is utilized, the less expensive it becomes. Just do the math. I worked for a very forward-thinking hospital system in Ohio some time back and they are still further along in their video conferencing than the larger metro hospitals with whom I conduct my business today. Sometimes old habits die hard and the company-sponsored boonedoggle is about the begin its slow, lingering death to video teleconferencing. By the time this new technology is perfected, we'll be wearing Dick Tracy watches and conferencing electronically. Dick would be proud.
