Small Business: Why can't this be love?
| posted by William BarrellIs small business a dirty word? It shouldn't be. As a small business owner, I have come to a few conclusions. First, many if not most small business failures are due to a lack of education. Owners don't know how to plan, excecute, and maintain. They don't know how to get assistance, and meet the needs of their business. Customers many times don't know they exist, and by the time they do, the owner is burned out, and on the way out.
Our compay is a micro-conglomerate. We look for existing business or create it. From the start, we learn all we can about the prospective endeavor, and even then it may not be enough. I would love to do one thing very well, but in todays market, diversificatin keeps us going in a flat to forward position. We have one core business, carpet and commercial cleaning, which is still in demand. Other endeavors have failed. However, we have obtained assets which we use to "pay forward" in our business. It is not unlike when a person gets a second job, etc.
Maybe, if your business begins to falter, you need to simply get it a second job, and see if you don't get the boost you need to keep moving foward.
