Make me a "One device fits all" to replace the clutter

The perfect device.  It allows me to accept phone calls as a mobile or with my home line.  Opens the garage door, operates my home entertainment systems, computer, X-Box, and my lights.  I want to blue tooth it when the notion strikes, and wake me up in the morning.  In other words, it is the ONE device.  That's what I want.  (Maybe it should start my car and operate my entertainment in that as well, and act as a navigation system with On Star capabilities)

Mental Ilness - a recent reply to a victim of discrimination - interesting

Re: Accusing Discrimination due to Disability When You are Mentally ill....
By hogs12 in Mental Health - NEW

Lack of knowledge by support organizations or people in authority is typical.  The school systems, with all the education involved, is especially ignorant on laws relating to the disabled.  One idea is to take your case to the local media.  Most areas have a consumer advocate who can possibly create positive public sentiment for your situation.  We come close to doing this with several issues we have encountered, each of which were resolved while we were deciding what to do next.  After 19 years of dealing with disability in our household, we have come to look at new challenges as par for the course, and know going in, we probably know alot more than those on the other side.  Keep learning, and fighting.  You will come out okay in the end.

I Believe I Can Fly ...

There is something about that lyric that has always given me a lift.  Simple, yet it can create many different images.  For me, I have come to realize I can fly, but not on my own.  I need wings, lift, and most importantly, the desire to take off.  All three have to be present to find success.  Right now, I want to fly, and I believe I can, if the wings can be found.  I am looking for the right mechanism to help my business lift and soar.  It seems to me many have a similar siutation.  The economy may have clipped their wings, but the desire is still there.  Keep looking for that new set of wings.

Election 2008

Barak Obama has charisma, and is very intelligent.   I am concerned about the entire package he would bring to the Whitehouse.

John McCain has been tested in the field of battle, and in Washington.  He is also intelligent, and has a demeanor which i think would bode well in a crisis.

I think the choice is still debatable, and will come down to whether we need great management of the office, or a sense of comfort against our enemies.

For me, I want to feel protected.  Right now McCain gives me a greater sense that he can do that for the country.

Small Business: Why can't this be love?

Is small business a dirty word?  It shouldn't be.  As a small business owner, I have come to a few conclusions.  First, many if not most small business failures are due to a lack of education.  Owners don't know how to plan, excecute, and maintain.  They don't know how to get assistance, and meet the needs of their business.  Customers many times don't know they exist, and by the time they do, the owner is burned out, and on the way out.

Our compay is a micro-conglomerate.  We look for existing business or create it.  From the start, we learn all we can about the prospective endeavor, and even then it may not be enough.  I would love to do one thing very well, but in todays market, diversificatin keeps us going in a flat to forward position.  We have one core business, carpet and commercial cleaning, which is still in demand.  Other endeavors have failed.  However, we have obtained assets which we use to "pay forward" in our business.  It is not unlike when a person gets a second job, etc.

Maybe, if your business begins to falter, you need to simply get it a second job, and see if you don't get the boost you need to keep moving foward.

He's Gone, Bye George

Richard Belzer said it best on The Last Show with David Letterman, "George Carlin was a master of language". Whether it be articulate musings or dirty talk, I believe this to be true 100%. His intellect oozed from every set he performed. His demeanor always seemed to say "I da know, sounds good to me, let's go burn one". I already miss George Carlin, and plan to do so again in the very near future.

Whose paying for China's growing pains

It feels like being an average American in the globalization process, is a little like being a rich uncle.  We are called upon when needed to help out, but are lucky if we get a christmas card.  It seems as though we are being forced to accept developments which are deemed in the best interest of America, yet too many of us aren't getting the benefit.

Having to accept the lower standards of emerging markets, yet continue to live by standards which hamper growth and prosperity on the local level, is it surprizing to see a bitterness growing among the everyday worker or small business person?  If we could operate like the chinese, then perhaps it would be less difficult to absorb high fuel costs, and a challenging economy.

What is really scary is that many who I have spoken with don't think they can do anything, so they just go on as if everything is a rose.   If this is true, then is it surprising that we feet like a kept sweetheart, just waiting for the next encounter where we get a little pocket change, but get ----ed in the process.

So is this the price of world peace; subsidizing companies who are sending jobs to that corner of the world, so that we can all be in this together?  If we are now a new world order, then let's just make it true.  Lets tell the people that there is no more national loyalty, but that world development is where the future is waiting.  OH, but then there would be a conflict when want the heartland to send their strength to a far away place, to protect national security.

Frustrating, but true.  China is growing up economically, and if they reach maturity too soon, lets hope their loyalties lie half way around the world as well.  Just don't bet your bonus on it.

Fight for a fair future.
